Sara Fruehe

Bassoon

Sara Fruehe is a well sought after bassoonist and pedagogue bringing passion and determination to all of her projects and students. An active orchestral player, chamber musician, and soloist, Sara has performed throughout the United States. Currently the second bassoonist with Terre Haute Symphony (IN), Sara also regularly performs with the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Carmel Symphony (IN), and Battle Creek (MI). She has also performed with the Kingsville Symphony (TX), Bloomington Camerata (IN), Northwest Symphony (IL) orchestras, and the Wheaton Municipal Band (IL). A champion and advocate of chamber music, Sara has experience in all configurations of chamber ensembles, but calls the woodwind quintet “home.” Prior to performing with Volante Winds, she performed with the Ventoso Winds of San Antonio, Texas focusing on community outreach and engagement. A dedicated teacher, Sara has been teaching and coaching for the past decade. In fall of 2016, Sara was Visiting Instructor of Bassoon and Chamber Winds at James Madison University. Sara is completing her Doctor of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Sara earned her Master of Music from DePaul University and Bachelor of Music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Her primary teachers include William Ludwig, William Buchman, Robert Barris, and Arthur Weisberg.
